Thanks for this: “DSM-5 called, and it wants you to know that gender identity has been excluded from the criteria for delusion since 2013”. Perfect.

It astounds me that the original letter was written by someone with a license let alone someone who is DBT-informed.

A core construct of DBT is that “two seemingly opposite things can be, and often are, true simultaneously. And yet, the letter is rife with instances of binary perspectives.

Further, as a transwoman, I can attest that I was never exposed to pornography, homophobia, misogyny, or any other substantive trauma… and yet… here I am. Maybe I’m the exception that proves the rule… but there seems to be a hell of a lot of exceptions to this rule which I encounter every day!

I’m biased… I’ll admit that… what can I say, forgive me for being happier, more fulfilled, less anxious and depressed, more authentic and genuine since I transitioned… but this drivel being spouted by someone who is allowed to provide care is frightening.

Your assessment and critical perspective was genuinely spot on.

Very very well done!

There is nothing to forgive, and we should not apologize for being happier, healthier, living our best lives free (or mostly free) from anxiety and depression! No one gets to define us.

This is a perfect and evidence-based response to an utterly biased and misleading position.

I cannot agree with your assessment more.

10/10… no edits.

Awwww, thanks! I am not a therapist, so coming from you - a professional therapist in the field, this makes my day!
