Wow. That was as good of an article as I've ever read, and the way you picked apart Alison's comments is nothing short of brilliant! As a trans woman, I always appreciate when people stand up to the transphobes, and having allies like you in the cis community is so awesome! I must admit, you and Robin debated Alison so much more effectively and charitably than I ever could have. Thank you for all of your wonderful articles and all the love and support that you show to the LGBTQ+ population!
One thing which didn't come up here which I've thought should be is the claim about separate lavs for the sake of "protection." The thing is, they weren't established for protection but for privacy. The idea that we can't let trans folks use the "wrong" lav because the separation is necessary to protect women is a modern invention.
So well reasoned and articulated, as always. I wonder which marginalized community will be the next target of these kinds of fear-driven, fallacious "questions" after trans folks. McBride's outrageous "questions" echo those that BIPOC have endured for far too long in our racialized society. Protecting the power of the gender binary is just the flavor of the month, so to speak. Privilege gained through oppressive control leaves the privileged in constant fear...like the thief needing to keep one hand on their own wallet to protect what they've stolen.
I saw the original exchange and was impressed by the way you and Robin handled it. I’m glad you turned it into a full post for others to see and learn from.
Also, There is a person/comic who creates political cartoons called LeftyCartoons. They did one about antri-trans rhetoric on a talk show called The JAQ Off"
which led me to look up what JAQ mean, which led me to the rationalwiki....
